Why the name Post Millennial?

Millennials are usually referred to individuals who have reached adulthood around the turn of the 21st century. They are the generation who have been exposed to an unprecedented amount of technology in their upbringing. They grew up with computers, the internet and the graphical user interface. This familiarity makes them adept at understanding interfaces and visual languages.

 

They tend to adjust readily to new programme, operating systems and devices and to perform computer-based tasks more quickly than older generations.

 

In schooling, today technology has strongly influenced Millennials in terms of Communication and education. It is predicted that by the time our first group of   PMA students enter the work force, digital technology would be an aspect of almost all career paths. Students attending the school in the year 2019 will be considered post millennial students. They must be prepared now to function locally as well globally in this new era.

What is the primary vision of Post Millennial Academy?

Our vision is to become the leading educational institution in Antigua and Barbuda dedicated to the total development of the child, through the imparting of knowledge and teaching of skills necessary for the child’s successful participation in the local and global society.

How does PMA differ from other schools?

Technology is the strongest pillar that differentiates us from all other primary schools. Our website is designed to be the hub between teacher/parent, teacher student communication. Our mode of pedagogical delivery using white boards and subsequently smart boards are in keeping with this new era.

How much is the school fees?

The school fee is two thousand seven hundred and twenty five dollars ($2,725.00) per term for Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Will there be a payment plan for school fees?

Yes, this will be on a case by case basis.

What other costs are included in the school fees?

Extracurricular activities a maximum of three (3) activities can be chosen from the list per term.

Will there be an open day for parents to visit and have a walkthrough of the school before it opens?

Yes, estimated time for open day will be during the first week of July 2019.

What time should students arrive at school?

7.55 a.m. is the recommended arrival time. However, the gate will be opened at 7:30 a.m. Students who arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. should assemble in the corridors in front of the administration office to ensure supervision.

Is an after-school care/programme provided and if yes what is the cost?

Yes, there will be an after school programme, which will run from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The fee for this service is to be determined.

What is the student-teacher ratio?

The student teacher ratio is 18:1

Will there be a cafeteria?

Yes, snacks and health conscious meals will be available. A healthy and balanced meal plan will be prepared by a nutritionist. The lunch prices are to be determined.

Can my child leave the school grounds during normal hours?

Children are not permitted to leave the school site without permission from the school and parent. A Leave Pass for outside appointments must be completed by a parent or nominated adult. These forms are available from the front office.

Do I need to present immunization records?

On admission to school, parents must present their child’s Immunization Record. Vaccinations should also be up to date.

What happens if my child is sick at school?

Parents are encouraged to keep sick children at home. Students who become ill while at school will be kept in a Sick Bay for a brief period until parents can pick them up. Minor injuries are treated at school but, parents will be contacted when the injury or illness requires further attention.

Can my child wear jewelry in school?

For safety reasons it is advised that children should not wear any jewelry in school. However, they may wear a wristwatch and girls who have pierced ears, may wear a small stud earring.

How can I help my child settle into school?

Bring your child to school on time. Arriving late can mean that your child misses important information about the lesson and may become anxious. You may be permitted to stay in class for a few minutes in the kindergarten department to assist your child in settling in.

When can I talk to the teachers?

Teachers are busy settling their classes first thing in the morning and can only receive the briefest of messages at that time. They are more easily available at the end of the day when they have dismissed their classes. Teachers are happy to make appointments to see you if you would like a longer conference.

What should I do if I am worried about my child’s progress?

Ask for an appointment to talk to the class teacher about your concerns. If you are still anxious, please ask to see the Principal.

What else can I do?

Please, ensure that you attend parent/teacher conference and special events in school. Participate and contribute to our fund raisers; Offer to go on school trips; read all the letters that your child brings home; support your child with homework; read together; give praise and encouragement.
