In one of these approaches education is believed to be situated in the social studies programme which is intended to teach children social issues and concerns, skills development, education of values and attitudes, and social participation .These suggested disciplines are expected to prepare students to be productive, responsible, tolerant, critical thinkers and decision makers who will interact positively among their groups. Antigua and Barbuda is a democratic, independent state. Therefore education for democratic citizenship would mean that the main outcome of schooling should be to produce citizens with civic consciousness, not only equipped with knowledge, but having the ability to demonstrate skills that are appropriate to such a citizenship.
